WHY a WIKI?

The world is changing at such a fast pace and new ideas are born every second. The Rockford Innovation Initiative team wanted to have a tool that could bring new members up to speed as well as have a vehicle for collaboration.

you want to put on your new home page.

seedwiki's online editor works a lot like your familiar word processing software.

 To insert images in your

page click on the 'image' button in the editor's tool bar. You will need to be logged in to your seedwiki account to be able to upload images.

There are two ways to create new pages in your wiki. You can 'edit' any existing page and type the new page name into the editor surround by square brackets some page name?. When you save the page the new page name will appear with a ? link. Click on the ? and you will go to the new page in 'edit' mode. The other way is to go the the wiki's directory. At the top of the directory in an input box where you can type the new page name and then click on the button to create it. You can create links to pages created in the directory by putting their names on any other page inside square brackets.

You can review recent changes in your wiki by going to its directory and clicking on the 'recent changes' link at the top of the directory page. Each page in your directory will have a '+' in front of it. Clicking on that '+' will open a page specific menu that will reveal 'quick edit', 'versions' and 'files' menus. 'quick edit allows you to make minor edits to the page in text mode. 'versions' shows you a list of past versions of a page and lets you review their content. 'files' shows you the files that have been uploaded to that page and allows you to upload new files to it.

Your wiki was created with a page called 'contact information'. You can put information there that will help people that have questions or that want to get in touch with the group creating the wiki to contact you.

Your wiki has three pages in its directory that govern how it is displayed. The '_style_sheet' page dispalys the text used as the CSS style sheet for your wiki. You can make changes in the style sheet by editing that page. Since it is a wiki page all past versions of the page will be saved and you can always go back to a previous version -- which will change your wiki's style back as well. The '_menu' page governs which options appear in your wiki's menu. Since it is a wiki page it can be edited and changed if your want different things in your menu. You can see all the choices for menu widgets by looking at the '_long_menu' page, which has a list of all the menu widgets and a short description of what each one does.

There is also a page in the control panel section named '_wiki_description' where you can put a short description of your wiki to be displayed whenever seedwiki needs to give some general information about your wiki.

You can find information to help you get started with your wiki in its directory in the 'how to' section. You can find full documentation for seedwiki in the seedwiki book.
