What Is A Graphic Novel?

Graphic Novel is a term referring to book-length comic books or comic-book format novels/story collections. Reading comics as a kid inspired me to believe in the impossible, to aspire to noble ideals, to crack wise in the face of danger (or my Mom, whichever), and to believe that the common ordinary guy can make a difference (even if you're a 'mutant' or in some other way different from other folks). They taught me to imagine that there is Good and there is Evil and it is our duty to be one and to fight the other. As a grown-up we may see these values to be overly simplistic or unrealistic, but hey it's nice to imagine anyway. Which is what many of the best comics are about, ideals and imagination.

Take a look at our Young Adult cart for our collection of Graphic Novels. Graphic Novels are Comic Book format book-length stories, often collected editions of comic book serials. Graphic novels are a fun read for young folks and can be a helpful literacy tool in encouraging reluctant readers. They're sort of like picture books for older kids, but they can be appreciated at many levels by grown folk as well. In this order we tried to include books for a wide range of interests and maturity levels.
