On the equinox, if the weather cooperates, I try to line up the spot where the sun rises with the spot where it sets, since they are directly opposite each other on this equal day and night. I first recognized this when I lived on an east-west street in Marquette, Michigan, where the sun rose at one end in the morning March 21 and set exactly at the other end. Should happen about Sept. 20, also. It is a comforting ritual.

November 21 -
Since moving to the East Coast six years ago, I have not spent one Thanksgiving with my family. We always had large extended family gatherings for every holiday, so missing out is no small matter. Each year since moving I have spent the holiday with friends. One of the highest points is in the food preparation. This year I made two batches of cranberry sauce and reflected on my grandmother. She was a dietitian in the army during World War II. She put extensive care into each dish she prepared and played the perfect hostess, making sure that every guest was comfortable and well-fed. She has passed on, but is still alive and well in my memories, particularly when I take the time and care over a dish to be shared.

Celebration and Ceremony Calendar

 

 

How do you mark the changing seasons? Do you annually note the first day the geese start flying south? Do you make a ritual of maple sugaring in the spring? Inspired by Whole Terrain, Volume 14: "Celebration and Ceremony," we created this calendar for sharing celebrations and ceremonies from throughout the year.

When adding to the calendar, HTML tags are accepted, but not required. The form is limited to 4,000 characters (roughly 750 words), so if your post is longer than that you can either shorten it, or serialize it!

Add a celebration, ceremony, ritual, event or note for January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, or December.
