Go on to Week 2

For all Blue group students on the BA English Language, Translation and Cultural Studies,  who have just started at the University of Warwick, September 2005.

First of all bookmark this page (make it one of your Favourites) so that you can easily find it again.
During this week (Week 1 of Term 1) write down any new word you have found. It could be from a textbook, a newspaper, a pamphlet or any written source. Make a note of the WHOLE SENTENCE where you read it and the FULL REFERENCE for the source text (the full title, the author, the date, the page number, the publisher etc.). Then come to this page and add your word using the instructions below.

1) To make a page for your word please click on 'Edit' on the left hand side.

2) In the box that comes up, scroll down to the bottom (under this writing) and type your word in square brackets - the ones that look like this   .

3) Then click 'Save your Changes'. You will see the word you wrote with a question mark after it.

4) Click on the question mark to go to the new page which has been added for your word.

5) On this page write the word at the top and the sentence where you found it (use the heading CONTEXT SENTENCE), the source reference (SOURCE REFERENCE) and any comment about it that you want to make (COMMENT). You should add the dictionary definition too (DEFINITION) and make sure you say which dictionary you used.

6)
Please also think of a creative way to remember this word based on a Chinese word (MNEMONIC). If you have a picture you want to add, send the file to Tilly and it will be added to your page.

Look at the example for the word 'molding'.
