Instructions for SeedWiki:
Click on the "edit this page" link in the menu to replace this text with whatever you want to put on your new home page.
When you edit a page the visual editor works a lot like your familiar word processing software. To insert images in your page click on the "image" button in the editor''s tool bar. You will need to be logged in to your seedwiki account to be able to upload images.
There are three ways to create new pages in your wiki.
- You can "edit" any existing page and type the new page name into the editor surround by square brackets (example: [some page name] ). When you save the page the new page name will appear with a ? link (example: some page name ? ). Click on the ? link and you will go to the new page in "edit" mode. When you enter some content and save the new page it will show up in your wiki's content page directory. If you go back to the original page where you made the link, the link should display as a link to the new page (example: some page name ).
- The second way is to click on the "new page" link in the menu. This will open a form where you can enter a new page name and click on a button to edit the new page. Once you have added content and saved a new page you create using the form it will show up in your wiki's content page directory. However, there will be no links to it on any of your pages. You can create a link to it on any page by entering its name between square brackets. When you save your edit seedwiki will recognize that the page already exists and render the page name as a link to the page.
- The other way is to go the the wiki's directory. At the top of the directory in an input box where you can type the new page name and then click on the button to create it.
You can review recent changes in your wiki by clicking on the "recent changes" button in the menu. If you want to track what pages are being changed in your wiki you can subscribe to change notifications (either for the whole wiki or for individual pages).
Your wiki was created with a page called "contact information". You can put information there that will help people that have questions or that want to get in touch with the group creating the wiki to contact you.
Your wiki also has a page called "_new_page_template". If you want all new pages in your wiki to start with certain standard content or formatting, you can go to your wiki's system page directory and click on the _new_page_template. Whatever content you put on that page or however you format it, the result will be used as a template for all new pages created in your wiki.
Changing your wiki's look and feel: When your wiki is displayed the display is made up of five parts: the header, the footer, the menu (on the left), the right bar (on the right) and the content area (in the center). You can find the outer pages (_menu,_header,_footer, and _rightbar) in the system page directory of your wiki. The system page directory also contains the code template that governs how these parts are assembled when a page in your wiki is displayed (_layout). If seedwiki's built in templates and changes you can make through your style sheet (another page in the system directory: _style_sheet) do not give you enough control over your wiki's appearance you can change the basic structural HTML that puts the parts of your page together by editing your _layout page.
Editing your Style Sheet: The "_style_sheet" page in the system directory displays the text used as the CSS style sheet for your wiki. You can make changes in the style sheet by editing that page. Since it is a wiki page all past versions of the page will be saved and you can always go back to a previous version -- which will change your wiki's style back as well. This ability to restore a previous version of a page will also work for your _layout page and for the _menu, _header, _footer and _rightbar pages.
Safe Mode: If you make changes to your system pages that you do not like and leave your wiki is a state where it is hard to recover past versions (for example, if you have deleted all the items from your menu) you can use "safe mode" to view and edit your wikis pages using a "safe" template and a default _menu, _header, _footer and _rightbar. You can switch to "safe mode" by scrolling to the bottom of any page in your wiki and clicking on the "safe mode" link. Once you are in safe mode you will stay in safe mode until you scroll to the bottom of any page and click on the "normal mode" link.
There is also a page in the control panel section named "_wiki_description" where you can put a short description of your wiki to be displayed whenever seedwiki needs to give some general information about your wiki.
You can a series of "how to" pages in your wikis content page directory. You can find full documentation for seedwiki in the seedwiki book.
