Phone Operation
The telephone has been a staple of long distance communication since its invention in the late nineteenth century. Here at the library, we have a telephone of our own to aid Front Desk workers in assisting patrons, communicating with staff and faculty, and ordering pizza.
- Answering: It’s important that the caller knows they’ve reached the library and that the library is at Antioch. If you’re feeling fancy, you can tell them your name.
- Language: No swearing or racial epithets.
- Hold: Put the person on hold instead of leaving the phone off the hook. They’ll be able to hear background noise and whatnot, and it’s very unprofessional.
- To put someone on hold, press the red Hold button at the bottom of the telephone keypad and then hang the phone up. You’ll be switched to the second 2400 line, free to call someone else, and the other person will be left waiting on the first 2400 line.
- To take them off hold, press the button for the first 2400 line (it’ll have a green light next to it). You’ll switch to that line and they’ll be able to talk to you.
- Transfer: When a patron calls, asking for a librarian don’t go find the librarian and ask if they are available, transer them to the librarian. To transfer someone, hit the Transfer button (on the right directly below the volume buttons), dial the extension to which you want to transfer them to, and then hit the Transfer button again. Apparently it’s a little broken so you have to hit it hard.
- Usage: Do not tie up the front desk phone, it is the only one!
Voice Mail
- There is a light on the mid right side of the phone that says Message next to it. When it shines red, there is a new message in the voicemail system.
- To access voice mail, hit the button with the Voice Mail label next to it (on the panel with the white sheet with the different extensions on it). You’ll be sent to our Audix voice mail system.
- The extension is 2400. You can type it in without waiting for the woman to stop talking. After you type in the extension, hit #.
- The password is pasted right below the phone. Again, you can press it right away. Afterwards, hit #.
Operating Voice Mail from Off Campus
- If you want to call in to your Antioch voice mail from outside of Antioch, dial 358-6860
- When you hear the greeting, Press 9 (not necessary to wait through the whole greeting)
- When you press 9 you should hear the "welcome to Audix" message, which will ask you for the usual prompts to access your voicemail (extension and password).
Numbers
- Antioch’s phone number is (603)357-3122. The extension for the front desk is 2400 (603.283.2400 from off-campus).
- Extensions are located in the drawer directly underneath the phone.
- There are instructions for transferring, placing calls on hold, and voice mail taped to the counter right in front of the phone for quick reference.
