The response to my announcement of seedwiki's closing has convince me to "reboot" it, as my daughter would say.
I have kept all the wikis in paid accounts and all the wikis whose owners request that they be kept open.
If you had a wiki on seedwiki and did not get the email about seedwiki closing, and you would like your wiki restored, please email me (ken@seedwiki.com) or call 510.384.7321. I am backing up all the wikis I removed and I should be able to restore your wiki.
Seedwiki is going to become a more private place. I am going to put a "catcha" on the site (a form that asks you to type in a series of letters and numbers) as a Turing test to keep out search engines and maurading scripts. This should allow me to change the free wikis back so that they can be edited without users having to be logged into a seedwiki account.
Free wikis will all use the same set of menus and the same style sheet. You will be able to put whatever you like on their pages, but you will no longer be able to modify their layout.
Time out: free wikis will time out and be removed if they show no editing activity for 4 months (120 days).
I will have 4 paid options:
$2.50 a month will maintain all the wikis in your account indefinitely, regardless of frequency of editing.
$5.00 a month will allow you to password your wiki
$10.00 a month will allow you use your own domain name and alter your wiki's layout. it will also allow you to expose it to search engines
$20.00 a month will allow you to use seedwiki wiki as a site generator which will place your site on the server of your choice.
I will be putting these changes in place over the next couple of weeks. I invite any questions or comments. As always, if anyone needs the features of a paid account and cannot afford them, they only need to contact me directly and we will arrange something.
