Google Checkout and Payment Systems

Yi-Tan Weekly Tech Call #93
Monday, July 17, 2006

Online payment systems haven't been a hotbed of innovation since PayPal showed up in late 1998.

This week Google launched its Checkout feature, which is more than just a payment system. Coupled with AdSense and other Google juice, it creates incentives that should bring favorable dynamics.

With our senior guest host Al Chang, let's discuss:

  • What extra leverage does Google have fielding a payment system?
  • What makes Google Checkout really appealing to merchants? to users?
  • Should Meg Whitman be sleeping less soundly?
As always, an IRC Chat will be available during the call, here.
