Shelflister

Why do we do this?

  • No, it's not to keep you busy. It's because we need to check that the books available in our system to actually reflect what is truly available in our stacks and so we can determine if books are missing, lost, or misshelved.
  • It keeps our shelves neat, organized, and presentable to our patrons.

  • The directions for how to use Shelflister can be found on the shelflister clipboard, which can be found in the stacks wherever the last Front Desker left off. Alternatively, the direction are saved in !!! Front Desk Files !!! > Special Projects > Stacks Maintenence Books > Shelflister.doc
  • If a book IS on the shelf and NOT in Shelflister…
  • Pull it, label it and put it in Cathy’s bin.
  • If a book IS on the shelf and is marked missing in Shelflister, please discharge it in Voyager and select "Remove Missing Status" when pop-up messgae appears.  Place it on the reshelving cart or return item to stacks.
  • If a book is NOT on the shelf but IS in Shelflister…
  • LOOK FOR IT IN THE VICINITY (i.e. that it hasn't been pushed behind the books, been misshelved, etc) If it’s not there, have another Front Desker double check to see if they can find it. If you still can't locate the book, on Shelflister tap the hyperlinked number to the left of the call number, check the barcode to make sure it’s not a different copy that is elsewhere on the shelf. Also check to make sure that the item isn’t charged, etc. Select the "Missing” option. Then tap “Mark Item.” **  To return to list of call #’s press “back” twice.  The update will not appear until Cathy has formally changed it.

**Mistake? If you have marked an item as missing incorrectly, discharge the book in Voyager so that when Cathy pulls up the history of the book, she will see that it was recently discharged. When Voyager asks if you want to remove Missing Status, click "Yes".  Then reshelf the book.
