Paying Fines

Front Desk Staff do not forgive fines (other than "Lost Item Replacement" or "Lost Item Processing" as needed... see below). Patrons should be referred to the Front Desk Supervisor or the Fines and Fees Guru via the libfines.ane @ antioch.edu email account for pleas of forgiveness.

*Note:   Lost books go to the Fines & Fees Guru. Include detailed note with Patron's name and your name.  Let the patron returning the books know that someone from the library will be in touch with them about their fines.

Note: The above information is also on the Charge-Discharge Books page.  Be sure to update that page if any of this procedure changes.

Fines are payable by:

  • Cash
  • Check payable to Antioch University New England
  • Credit Card

Credit Card Authorization

There are two ways to authorize credit cards:

  1. Patrons can fill out and sign a paper authorization form. Paper authorization forms must be put in a sealed envelope and put in front desk manager's inbox.  You may not take information and/or fill out a form from over the phone! Credit card authorization at -->Front Desk Files > Forms and agreements > Credit Card Authorization_3-09
  2. eCheck (electronic check):-->go to Front Desk Files > Forms and agreements > E-Check authorization_3-09 >
On both forms: **make sure that everything  is filled out or they CANNOT be processed**

If a Patron satisfies any of the criteria below, fines may be paid or forgiven

  • The Patron has just given you money (partially or in full)
  • The Patron swears convincingly that the fine was our mistake, not theirs.

We'll begin in Voyager.

  1. Click the Patron tab and search for them by name or barcode.
  2. When the record appears, Click the $ Dollar Sign icon. The Patron Fines/Fees box will appear.
  3. At the bottom of this box, there is a tab called “Post.” Click this.
  4. Now… do you see how if you look just a wee bit to the Right and a touch down from the middle of the “Post Against Fine/Fee Box” in the foreground, that you can just see the actual amount that the Patron owes?  Good! This will come in handy in a minute…

Is the Patron paying their fine in full?

If so, simply type in the number amount (which you can see still, right?). Then hit OK.

Is the Patron not paying their total?

If they are paying a part of their fine, remove the dot that indicates Patron Total and type in the amount that they are actually paying. You can include a note if there are some important wild or wholly circumstances to report but it is not necessary. Then hit OK.

Is the Patron being forgiven?

To forgive fines, it is important to scroll down from where it says “Payment,” and switch this to “Forgive.” Now hit OK.

Well done! You have just made someone very happy.

Made a Mistake?

If you've selected "Payment" but meant "Forgive," please make a note of it with the amount, the Patron's name, the item citation or barcode number and your name with the date. This note can go in the cash box.

Policy: For disputes over fines, refer Patron to the Fines & Fees Guru via the libfines.ane @ antioch.edu email account.
