ILL (Inter-Library Loan or Document Delivery) The Brand Name at Antioch is called "We Deliver!"
ILL is a big part of the work the library does every day. We are part of a nationwide network of libraries acting as one. Through ILL students can obtain materials from other libraries as well as their school's own library. This is done via a big database in the sky called "OCLC" and with software called "Ariel" on the computer to the left of the front desk. This computer is only for ILL and stays on all the time. We receive and mail out books and articles, both via snail mail and electronic file delivery, every day. Cathy Boswell is head of ILL, and Vanessa and Emily work with her. Front desk staff are only responsible for the snail mail part of the process (sending and receiving).
ILL books received in the mail or ILL books returned over the counter are both placed in the green "incoming Interlibrary Loan" boxes next to the mail station. ILL books that are to be picked up here will be found on the cart behind the front desk. ILL books are NOT charged or discharged in Voyager. All of the books on this cart are in alphabetical order by Patron's last name.
If a Patron has a question relating to ILL, direct them to Emily, Vanessa, or Cathy.
If they are not present, email them the following information:
- Patron's Name
- Patron's ID Number
- As much information as possible about the item in question - title, author, page numbers, etc.
- What the question/concern is
-
Your name (first and last if you're emailing from the anonymous "circulation" account)
Patrons can be directed to this website for more information: http://wedeliver.antioch.edu/faq.html.
Patrons that request to have ILL items shipped to their home address:
- Take items off the Pick-Up shelf
- Bundle them and place in ILL bin with a note saying to ship items to the Patron's home.
ILL Vocabulary:
Pending = we are waiting for a lending library to accept the request
In Process = a lending library did accept the request, and they are doing their best to fill it as fast as they can (at least we hope)
Shipped = the lending library is sending the request (book or article) to AUNE...NOT TO THE PATRON!!!! At this point it could be two hours or two weeks before the Patron gets their request depending on what it is, where it is coming from, and how it was shipped. If it is an article being sent through Ariel and there are two awesome people on either end, that request could be delivered with lightening speed, but if it is a book coming from Alaska that then needs to be sent to us through California... well a lot of it is out of our hands... it will take a little longer.
Received = AUNE has actually received the document. If it is an article, it will be E-delivered and will be available to view online through the Patron's ILL account. If it is a book and the Patron stated on their request form to have the book mailed to them because they live out of state, etc... the book will be mailed to them. If the Patron decides they are coming into town and come to library and they are like "why isn't my book here?," it is because they wanted it to be mailed to them! Patrons that request books mailed DO NOT get an email notice, they just get pleasantly surprised when it shows up on their door step. Now, Patrons who request books and who live nearby usually state on their request form that they will pick up their book when it arrives. So when AUNE updates their request to "received", they DO get an email notification that their book is ready to be picked up.
Returned = the ILL book was returned to AUNE.
Complete = the ILL book was received back at the lending library.
