Holds and Callslips:

Here's the latest and greatest on what to do if a patron wants us to set aside materials from our own collection (as of Spring 2010):

Front desk staff are responsible for monitoring Callslip requests once upon opening and once in the afternoon. Directions are below.

For Holds: (Patron wants an item that is checked out to someone else)

  • Direct them to ILL/We Deliver. Since we cannot control when the item will be returned, ILL is likely the fastest route to get the material they need. (Side note: we can technically still place "Holds" on circulating material through Voyager, but we should use this service for our own, informed staff only).

For Callslips: (Patron wants us to set aside an item that is currently sitting on our shelves).

  •     If they need it shipped - they need to place an ILL request.
  •     If they are coming to campus to pick it up, they can place a "Callslip Request" in Horace to have it set aside for up to 7 days.

To Check Callslip Requests: (once each AM & PM shift)

  • Once each AM & PM shift, double-click the "Callslip" icon on the desktop.
  • If there are new requests, print the request screen.
  • Go retrieve the book from the shelf, and if it is available, then hit "Process."
  • Fold the Callslip, place it in the book, and stamp the book with a date 7 days in the future (using the DVD stamp).
  • Place the complete hold item on the bottom of the course reserves cart.

Items Needed on a Future Date: (Patron needs to set something aside for a future class more than 7 days in advance).

  • If it's for a class, this can be treated as a "Print" Course Reserve. See Course Reserves for instructions. Cathy will need specific information from the patron, so don't let them leave until you grill them! If it's not for a class, we do not provide "advance reservations" on print materials.

Cathy B and the ILL crew are now responsible (as of Dec. 2009) for going through the Holds/Pick-up and ILL carts to pull any material that has expired or been sitting there beyond their intended availability.
