How To Charge/Discharge Library Materials
Until Further Notice, Please do not forgive any fines or fees for lost/missing books. Let the patron know that the person who handles fines and fees will be in touch with them.
Lost books go to Cathy, lost AV items go to Francie. Include detailed note with patron's name and your name.
*Please remember to have a fellow desker charge and discharge your library items for you!
Charging -> Voyager+3M = Efficiency
1. Verify the Patron's identity in Voyager using one of the following methods:
-
Scan the barcode on the Patron's ID card. (Preferred method)
-
Ask for the Patron's seven-digit Datatel ID/Student ID number (this is the number they use to log in to FirstClass). Verify their account by confirming their name and ask that they please bring their ID card with them next time.
- Ask for FIRST and LAST name. Verify their account by confirming their address. Ask that they please bring their ID card with them or learn their ID number.
2. Take the item(s) from the Patron.
3. Click the Outgoing button on the 3M Pad window.
4. Place the item(s) ONE AT A TIME on the 3M pad. Make sure the title appears in the Patron's account Charge window.
5. Close the Patron's account window.
6. Stamp the books with the due date (this is more for the use of the librarians than the patron, although it is helpful for the patron as well).
7. If it is a DVD or CD, get the disc from the AV room.
8. Smile and give the item(s) to the patron.
TO DISCHARGE:
1. Click the button with the bookshelf icon
2. Select discharge in voyager.
3. Put item on 3M Pad, if you put several items on the 3M pad be extra vigilant in checking the number of items that are being discharged, both in 3M and in voyager.
4. Check again to see if the correct # of books were discharged !!!
Modify Due Dates, as necessary.jpg)
Often, especially with A/V equipment, you will HAVE to modify the due date when charging out an item. Make sure the modified due date in voyagers is the same as the return date in BOOKIT. Otherwise the patron maybe charged all kinds of overdue and lost item fees and fines.
How to Modify Due Dates
While you are checking out an item or from within the patron's charged items list:
-
Right click anywhere on the item (highlighted in blue).
-
Select Modify Due Date.
-
Enter the new Due Date.
-
Click OK.
Please Note: This process can only happen upon initial check-out of an item. A reminder: it especially applies to AV reservations, such as laptops.

De-Beep All Materials, Plus ILL
ALSO: please de-beep EVERY book, audio or video item we hand over the desk to patrons. The most provocative items this includes are ILL items which may or may not have RFID security tags. Nonetheless, our gates are BEEPING way too often. Try to de-beep all ILL items whether or not you see a tag and please continue to call people back and re-scan their items when it does beep. De-beeping ILL books (ours or other libraries') should minimize the number of erroneous beeps.
