AV Battery Tester
Location: Battery Cart
OVERVIEW: Welcome to the Battery Tester!
The battery tester is a great way to make sure that we are giving out charged batteries with our AV equipment. This battery tester can be used to check standard batteries: AA, AAA, C, D, 9 Volt. DO NOT try to use on any other sorts of batteries.
Some Voltage Information to Know: It is important that you set the battery tester to the correct voltage for the battery you are testing. If it is set to the wrong voltage, you could fry the tester. And that would be terrible!
9 Volt Batteries: Use the 9V BAT setting
All other regular, non-rechargeable batteries (AA, AAA, C, D): Use the 1.5V BAT setting
Rechargeable AA Batteries (most of ours are 1.2 Volts): Use the 2V setting
HOW TO USE:
- Turn the dial to the correct voltage setting. (See image above)
-
Remove the plastic covers on the ends of the test wires. Touch the metal tip on the BLACK TEST WIRE to the NEGATIVE (-) end of the battery. Hold that end there and touch the metal tip on the RED TESTING WIRE to the POSITIVE (+) end of the battery.

- View the voltage on the screen. Check the voltage table that is taped to the side of the battery meter to see if the battery is still good or not.
**If you'd like to save the voltage on the screen, press the HOLD button that is on the top left side of the dial on the battery meter.
To change the battery in the battery tester:
- Remove red plastic cover.
- Retrieve a small phillips head screwdriver from the tool box.
- Unscrew the two screws holding the battery cover on. Be careful not to strip the screws.
- Remove battery cover and replace the 9V battery.
Battery Location:
All batteries are located in the supplies card catalog.
Each type of battery has its own drawer.
The Half Life drawer is for batteries that tested in the weak zone (1.22V - 1.35V). They can be used for short periods of time, or for low draw appliances. Please don't hesitate to offer these batteries to earth-hugging folks whose lives don't depend on fully-charged batteries and would rather use them up than see them get tossed.
